Hollywood Bad Boys Imagined as Bollywood Actors
I had been thinking about this for a while. I know many videos might show the same thing. But today, I thought of coming up with a few characters from Hollywood who have managed to scare us and reimagined them as being cast by Bollywood actors. It is just a fragment of my imagination; please feel free to add your own recommendations in the comment section.
1. Count Dracula: For me, whenever I think of Dracula, I can only imagine Gary Oldman. I have watched other actors play the role, but no one has managed to capture the complexities of the character like he has. At times, he might have appeared too loud and theatrical. But I thought it was necessary to bring out the character's eccentricity; at least that was the way Francis Ford Coppola had presented the Count. For me, it was the ultimate till date.
In Bollywood, I could only imagine Ranveer Singh playing that character, with his balanced acting prowess. He can portray eccentricity at its best (Padmaavat), and he can romance as well. For me, he is the best choice to play the role of Count Dracula, at least if the story is based on Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 movie.
2. Patrick Bateman: While choosing the Bollywood Dracula version clicked instantly, this was a pretty difficult choice. Christian Bale's epic lunacy in American Psycho is extremely difficult to match. The most insane moments are when he creates mass havoc with the chainsaw or reveals his monstrous intentions casually, camouflaged under office jokes. These scenes highlight the complete contradiction of his characteristic traits and the gradual psychological deterioration he goes through. It was scary, sad, and gut-wrenching.
After picturising quite a few actors, like Vicky Kaushal and others, I zeroed in on Shahid Kapoor. He has the sharpness in his features that one would imagine Bateman to have. He would appear stylish and has the acting range to turn into an absolute wreck when required. We have seen that in Kabir Singh. Bateman's psychological downfall reminds me of certain scenes from Haider. I think Shahid would be a great choice.
3. Paddy: James McAvoy turns every character his own. I can't think of any actor who could play any of his roles. For Speak No Evil, he turned himself into a beastly man, capable of stooping to any low. He jokes without any restraint, which may portray him as a straightforward man, but what is going on behind it is despicable. And what a performance he has given in this role, making him appear as a monstrous individual.
Initially, I thought of Varun Dhawan in the role, mainly due to the beefed-up look of the character. However, suddenly I was reminded of an underrated thriller called Chup. Dulquer Salmaan played a psychopath. It was a decent movie, and Salman was quite menacing. I somehow thought he would fit into Paddy's role quite well.
4. Lou Bloom: It gives me goosebumps whenever I get reminded of Jake Gyllenhaal's portrayal of Lou Bloom in the movie Nightcrawler. A go-getter who can do anything to achieve whatever he wants, Lou's desperation is nothing less than a psychopath's ambition. When his street-smartness does not work any more, he resorts to murder for the perfect capture. This is a complicated character who is sick of being sidelined and can do anything to prove himself. A character whose desperate measures are the real villain.
I watched Kartik Aryan in Freddie a few years back. It was very different from the usual cute roles he is seen playing. And he often goes through physical transformation for his roles ( Chandu Champion). I thought, appearance-wise, he would quite fit the role of Lou. It would be interesting to watch his performance in the same.
5. Phantom: I was not aware that Gerard Butler had given his voice to most of the songs in the musical movie, Phantom of the Opera. When I learnt it very recently, I was quite surprised. The Gothic backdrop and his performance had captured quite a few hearts. The dark romance that the movie captures of a stalker, residing in the sewage of a theatre and terrorising everyone, was done with great skill by the actor.
I had two choices for the role. Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor. However, I chose Ranbir Kapoor for the role. The Gothic styling and stalking somehow reminded me of Ranbir's Sawariya. He is a great actor, and I am sure would do justice to this role too.
6. John Gray: Before 365 Days and 50 Shades of Grey, there was 91/2 Weeks. And before Michele Morrone and Jamie Dornan, there was Mickey Rourke. Rourke played the calm and extremely manipulative character of Wall Street honcho, John Gray, perfectly. He would not budge; he would not nudge, but would just emotionally and psychologically torment without even blinking. What makes the character worse is that he extends these manipulative tactics in public, too.
I felt Hrithik Roshan would be a good choice for this role. We have seen him play a manipulative character in Vikram Vedha, so it would be great to watch him take on a manipulative lover.
