Book Review: Scream Stories- A Horror Anthology
Navratri is celebrated more as Durga Puja in West Bengal. I was fortunate to spend those 10 days in the state, specifically in my city, the City of Joy, Kolkata, that too after 15 long years. Catching up with old friends after so many years and travelling to every corner of the city in search of the magnificent creativity each pandal, big or small, showcases made for a fortnight to remember. But every beginning has an end. And yesterday, as my stay ended and I was on my flight back to Mumbai, I had to do something exciting to compensate for my sadness. On a flight, what can be more interesting than reading a book filled with spooky stories! And I picked up the brand-new Horror release, Scream Stories: A Horror Anthology.
About The Book
Scream Stories- A Horror Anthology is a compilation of 9 spooky stories from 9 Indian authors: Rathin Bhattacharjee, Madhu Mehrotra, Parthib Chatterjee, Monisha Manindra, Vishnu Mohan, Suman Ghosh Dastidar, Archita Kumar, Reubenna Dutta and Raveena Menon. Every tale presents a different version of horror from each author's perspective.
My Review of Scream Stories- A Horror Anthology
A book with 9 stories that give you the chills, just before Halloween- Scream Stories -A Horror Anthology is just the perfect Halloween buy or gifting idea. Every story has managed to create a spooky atmosphere for the readers from the beginning. Dr Rathin Bhattacharjee's Last Time for The Kill brings back the creepy feel of creature horror, while Madhu Mehrotra's Body Horror, Hateful Horror, Horrible highlights the painful and scary aspect of expected body perfection, with a hint of the ordeal of domestic violence. Parthib Chatterjee's Where The Mind is Without Fear is a very intriguing psychological horror set in an orphanage, while Monisha Manindra's Mathsyadhami explores folklore. Vishnu Mohan's The Unknown Face revolves around nightmares, while Suman Ghosh Dastidar's Tok Tok Tok again evokes the thrill of creature horror. Archita Kumar's The Ghost Who Asked for a Fish again brings back a real-life experience of a folklore, while Raveena Menon's The House That Feeds Still Lived is about a monstrous house. And yours humbly's, "I Won't Rest Until" is about a paranormal experience of an emotionally neglected housewife that changed her entire perspective on life.
Overall, my 2 and a half-hour flight was nothing short of chilling, thrilling, and goosebump-inducing as I went through these 9 tales filled with every ingredient that would satisfy a horror-story lover's taste.
