Many incredible Bengali stories explore teachers, teacher-student dynamics, and the influence of great teachers in someone's life. Here is a list of stories by famous Bengali writers that have enriched the genre over the years. Without any further ado, here is the list.

1. Master Mashai by Rabindranath Tagore: This is a heartwarming story of an honest private teacher who was later sacked from his office on false charges of theft. 

One of Tagore's best short stories, mainly revolving around Haralal, the private tutor and Benu, his arrogant student. A beautiful, touching story about a person paying the price for his honesty and devotion to his student.


2. Pandit Mashai by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay: Brindaban is a teacher who was married in his childhood, but was separated from his child bride due to his father’s interference. As he grows up to become an ideological and educated person, he realises the wrong done to his wife. So, he tries to win her back into his life, but she is too hurt by past events and is hard to convince. Although this novella is primarily about Brindaban’s family issues, a considerable portion also explores his influence as a teacher.


3. Anubartan by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay: This is a wonderful story of a school and its teachers. The story revolves around different teaching styles, the influence of Western teachers of that era, including their impact on students, and reflects on the differences in ideologies amongst them.

The story is told in a narrative style and explores different characters and their journeys.


4. Koni by Mati Nandi: This is a very powerful sports story about the constant determination and tenacity of a teacher behind his student to turn her into a champion. Khidda, a swimming coach, discovers a future swimming champion among her students. Koni. When Koni's unfavourable circumstances nearly halt her career, Khidda takes full responsibility and ultimately guides her to emerge as a winner.



5. Sandipan Pathsala by Tarasankar Bandopadhyay:  It is a story of Sitaram, a neglected teacher in a remote village of Bengal. The story revolves around his journey from a peasant family to becoming an educator. But how someone's jealousy and his own loss of vision finally led him to lose everything that he had earned with his hard work and determination. 

I just found out about this book while researching. I have neither read it nor been aware of it. But if it exists, I would surely love to read it.

We have 2 schools near our house, and both are preparing for Sunday's Republic Day celebrations. Listening to the drum beats and patriotic songs feels so good. Yesterday, it was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary. I remember watching an old movie based on his life a long time back. This made me wonder why not make a list of such patriotic Bengali films today. So, today, I have listed 5 such patriotic Bengali Films: 1.
