Top 4 One Man Army Movies I Watched Recently
When I close my eyes and think of One-Man-Army movies, the one that immediately knocks my sleepy mind is the Taken franchise of Liam Neeson. I know there are many more, but my mind is fixated on those films. (I haven't watched John Wick or Jack Reacher.) In Hindi Films, I had watched a few movies of late, quite late though. But still, I would like to list those few. I am not a fan of action films, but I end up watching them. So, my recent watches include:
1. Subedaar: After playing the father to many a hero of late, here he is, a father who is the main hero. He is back with his 80s action avatar, the image we grew up watching. And he is great at that. We are talking about Anil Kapoor. Supported by a strong cast of villains, especially Mona Singh as the vile Godmother, Babli Didi and Aditya Rawal as her evil brother, the movie is a good one-time watch. The father-daughter chemistry is very different. If not, watch it for Kapoor and his comeback as the action star.
2. Crazxy: I remember attending the screening of Talvar, and absolutely hating the character Vedant, on account of his betrayal. At the time, I didn't know the actor, but much later, when I saw his brilliance in Tumbaad, I got to know him. So, when Craxzy released last year, I had to watch it. And good Lord that I did. It is about a desperate father on a mission to save his daughter from kidnappers. Shah plays Dr Abhimanyu Sood, the father, an almost fragile character, desperate to do anything to save his daughter, with his presence of mind as his greatest weapon. It's not typically a road chase film, but a good portion of the movie revolves around Shah behind the wheel. It's a great thriller to watch.
3. Kennedy: What can I say? The more I decide not to watch depressing movies, the more I end up watching. And why does Anurag Kashyap make depression so addictive? I remember watching Rahul Bhatt in Ugly, one of the most disturbing films and now this. Unlike the other films, it is definitely not a saviour we are talking about; he is someone from whom people should save themselves. Uday Shetty, a corrupt cop, gets suspended on charges of murder and is abducted from Bangalore. He emerges as a heartless, robotic assassin who works for the cops. Bhatt's expressionless and emotionless murder spree and mass destruction would give you goosebumps. A must-watch but not for the faint-hearted. I did not open my laptop for 2 days after watching it.
4. Akeli: This is a movie from 2023, but I was not aware of it. Jyoti, an Indian girl, moves to Iraq in search of better prospects. But a siege on the factory where she works ends with her as a hostage, along with many other women, by terrorists. The brutal treatment she endures is horrific. Yet she emerges victorious every time, establishing her character as a do-or-die survivor. Barring some technical loopholes (the aeroplane escape), the movie is interesting. It can be a good one-time watch.
