Top 5 Old Doordarshan Shows Facebook Recommended
A general scroĺl of my Facebook is enough to give me the best dose of the day- it starts with some depressingly negative quotes, to pronouncing fashion labels correctly. In between I cannot ignore never-heard-of recipes like litchi ka bharta, santre ki chutney, kele ki chilke ka kachori... so on so forth. Then there come those reels who give me heightened complex because they make me feel my naivety and shrink myself to believe I am the only creature who is yet to watch Turkish dramas, Norwegian TV shows or even Nigerian soap operas.
Jokes apart, my Facebook feed sometimes acts as a mini Encyclopedia, covering every possible information, e.g. today I found out an interesting photographic evolution of noted actor Amol Palekar, where a picture from his childhood uncannily looked like Master Raju ( Raju Kulsresth). Whatever the page's owner has done, AI, non-AI, original pictures, it definitely was not Palekar's childhood captured. Other than this misinformation, appear the most lucrative propositions- the upto 80% discount offer from sunglasses to sunny beach vacations, pen-holders to penthouses- the whole world turns to a sale-party.
And then come the continuous hatred challenge- no body is spared here. Alia Bhatt in Cannes, Ananya Pandey's dance, Parambrata Chattopadhyay's political chance, they got it all covered. A scroll of 5 minutes turn out to be a plethora of knowledge about us, human being. Now some wise men may ask, at least they are making some content, what are you doing? Nothing, watching and writing. And happy doing that.
However, amidst these mishappenings, just when I try to quit, I come across certain old gems. Like these I managed to remember some TV serials of Doordarshan from the 80s and 90s, courtesy Facebook, out of which some I have watched and some I missed:
1. Ye Jo Hai Zindagi: Oh I remember how funny it was, a story of a couple, and their daily issues, mostly revolving the woman's jobless brother. Safi Inamdar, Swaroop Sampat, Rakesh Bedi and Satish Shah- it was funny.
2. Wah Janaab: Shekhar Suman and Kiran Juneja srarred in this hilarious romantic comedy. I remember warching both, but don't recall the events occurring. But it was quite popular amongst niche audiences.
3. Wagle Ki Duniya: I remember Anjan Srivastav and Shahrukh Khan in one episode. It was a social drama with some funny moments, often realizations of Mr. Waghle through his daily interactions.
4. Intezaar: What I remember most was the wonderful title track in Jagjit Singh's soulful voice and Gulzar's lyrics- Bhukhe ko roti ka, Bekar ko rozi ka, Lootere ko mauke ka, Intezar Hai.
Zindagi ki rail me har koi sawar hai, Apni apni manzilon ka sab ko intezar hai.
As far as remember it was about a newly appointed station master in a small town, played by Rajendra Gupta.
5. Daane Anar Ke: This was a cute show with Neena Gupta and Shailendra Goel, playing a couple who has won a lottery. I don't remember the whole incident, but what reappears in my mid often, is Neena Gupta's brilliant performance as the naive wife. What an actor!
There were more like Quile Ka Rahasya, Katha Sagar and Raag Darbari. Doordarshan had shown us stories that stayed with us and can be regarded as still relevant even today. And finally thanks to Facebook, and the content makers who are excavating these treasures from the past.
