Top 5 Bengali Web Series to Watch Now

I stayed away from writing about my weekly film/web series/music posts during April. But today, being May 1, I am once again starting to write my weekly post. I have watched a few cool Bengali web series in the past few weeks. So today, I have picked 5 such web series that are quite entertaining.

1. Ekenbabu Puruliyay Pakrao: Eken Babu is back and this time in the colourful state of Puruliya. An Ashram in the state brings Ekenbabu and his friends, Bapi Babu and Pramatha, on an interesting investigative journey, much to the detective's reluctance. However, once he gets deeper into the case, there's no escape for any of the criminals.

Anirban Chakraborty is funnier this time, and to give the narratives a fresh change, his weird and hilarious conversations are more with the other characters in the story than the usual war of words with his two mates. If you are looking for a thriller comedy, you should not miss this.

2. Thakumar Jhuli: Srabanti Chatterji stars as a seventy-year-old grandma, who has a keen eye for details and a sharp mind for investigation. A very strange death of a young woman, on the day of her marriage, forces Thakuma to take matters into her own hands to investigate her death. With the help of a lazy police officer, her own granddaughter and a local journalist, she cracks the case quite diligently.

The series is quite good, and one should watch it as it was the last work of the talented actor Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee, who passed away in a tragic accident last month. Truly, his was the best performance in the entire series, not even kidding.

3. Karma Korma: This is an interesting series about two women who bond over some unusual incidents. Their only goal is to get rid of their torturous husbands. Their economic and social status are poles apart, yet their target keeps them together.

This is an interesting story, and both Sohini Sarkar and Ritabhari Chakraborty deliver powerful performances. Ritwick Chakraborty, as the investigating officer, is brilliant. He effortlessly pulls up the character's cocktail of comedic nuances and the sharp focus of a seasoned police officer.

4. Adalat O Ekti Meye: A woman is drugged and raped at a party at her boss's house party. She does not remember what exactly had happened. Her case is not taken seriously by anyone. Her boss, who had often harassed and inappropriately behaved with her before, maintains his innocence, while the other boss supports her, and his wife, a lawyer, also takes up her case.

Some really disturbing things come forth during the investigation. The basic message of the story is that a woman's character is dissected, despite her being the victim (something we saw in Assi). Even the near and dear ones turn their back. Suddenly, her open-mindedness becomes attention-seeking. The series is a strong reflection of society and its blind eye towards victims of rape and sexual assault.

5. Anusandhan: This is a hard-hitting story of a daring investigating journalist, Anuradha, who gets framed in murder charges during her investigations, when she comes closer to revealing the names of some powerful people. The series depicts some very brutal incidents, especially inside the jail.

Subhasree has given some very convincing performances in all her recent works, and this one is another feather in her cap. Sohini Sengupta, as a contract killer, is outstanding- a woman who talks over the phone with her little son, lovingly, while taking the life of someone most violently.
