"Q" for "Quaint"

The thirty-something superstar dramatically descended the hotel stairs. Dressed in the trendiest outfit, his smile alone sent the media and fans into a frenzy. Aware of his star power, he used every bit of it to charm those around him. With just a wave of his hand and a kiss blown into the air, he gave the crowd exactly what they wanted. He was there for a press conference promoting his latest release. The paparazzi in the lobby quickly gathered around him. In the corner of the lobby, an elderly man in white overalls observed the scene from a distance. He was playing the hero's father in the new film. In his 80s, he still exuded charm and sophistication, maintaining his evergreen persona without drawing attention to himself. He was happy for the new superstar and rose from his seat to head to his car. As he walked, he reminisced about 50 years ago, when all the cameras were on him, just as they are on the younger star today. He also recalled, from that time, another elderly man sitting quietly in a corner, who had played his father, perhaps lost in the same thoughts he had now.

Self-Reflection and Realization

Every year, before the onset of Durga Puja, readers of Bengali literature receive some precious gifts in the form of the Sharadiya Pujabarshiki (Yearly Literary Magazine). For the past 70 years or so, we have seen some outstanding works from the Creme' of Bengali literature like Samaresh Basu, Sunil Ganguly, Shirshendu Mukherjee, Ashapurna Devi and many others being published in these magazines for the first time. This trend continues; this year, too, my husband gifted me a few such magazines before Durga Puja. Mushy Mushrooms, Mini Macaroons & 5 Whodunnit Murder Mysteries to Watch on My Breakfast Plate

As the mother of a fourth-grade student, my mornings start at 5:30 a.m. daily. Making breakfast and setting up lunchboxes keep me occupied during those hours and since I like to keep it simple for breakfasts, they generally get quite boring, with either bread toasts or chapattis. (common story of a lot of moms). Sometimes our wishes can go to an extravaganza and the longing for a due break with a lavish breakfast consisting of some creamy- buttery mushy mushrooms sprinkled with roasted garlic, some berry-flavoured mini macaroons and to top it all a thrilling, chilling old-fashioned Whodunnit Murder Mystery Movie playing on TV just makes things perfect.
