Joy from Circus
As
I look back on my childhood days, I remember how our lives used to be simple,
with little advent of technology. Video games were there, but not to the same
extent as they are now, with their overwhelming presence everywhere. Instead of
getting into the "God-knows-what" world of Roblox, kids used to play
with real bricks to build castles and houses. In place of today's obsession
with spending hours scrolling through shorts and reels, they used to spend
hours playing outdoors. They used to find joy in real things, rather than
getting lost in the virtual reality jungle. I still recall one of the most
memorable winter activities: a visit to the circus. And recently, when I came
across a couple of circuses that had been camped in various parts of the city,
I could not resist my temptation. I immediately booked the tickets for the 4 pm
show on Sunday.
Why
Circus?
The
circus is one of the most innocent sources of visual entertainment. We can see,
observe and learn from it. It is the pure joy that it provides.
We can
see: Yes, literally we can see so many things in a circus, it's a visual
representation of variety and an amalgamation of colours. It is bright,
beautiful and daring. It is funny and entertaining.
We can
observe: We can observe the outcomes of the various acts from the
performers at a circus. When they come to the stage, their colourful dresses
and lively personas attract us and appear welcoming. Then, when they perform,
we observe the wonderful outcome. We observe how the juggler juggles 10 bottles
together, how the trapeze artists balance themselves on ropes and swing from
one to the other, and how the clowns make us laugh with their various antics. What can bring more joy than this?

This is like deja vu. Just the other day, I was thinking about how circus used to be the biggest holiday maker during my childhood. I loved the acrobatics, we used have Russian ones also in Delhi. All those are long gone. It was nice to know you have them around your home.
ReplyDeleteThis took me straight back to my own childhood memories of simple, pure fun, you captured that nostalgia so well with the circus scenes and how we used to actually play outside instead of staring at screens.
ReplyDeleteLoved this! You captured the magic and simple delight of the circus so well — joy really does come from the most unexpected places
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I never went to a circus as a child. The first time I visited one was as a 23-year-old woman living with flat mates and away from the family. What fun it was !
