An Ode To December with 2 Poems

An Ode To December

While the mercury fluctuates and treads its own path with its free will,
The poison in the air crumbles the hope of another clean winter,
We still welcome you.
December, come with your beauty, your cool, your calm.
Shower us with your love and a clean, breezy winter.
We will embrace you and immerse in you!
Bring us that hope, that joy.
Be our Santa, December- for this year!

Winter-Ready

The cold season was about to start,
And we were getting ready.
But as we started cleaning the dirt,
We found a little teddy.

Buried inside heaps of old toys,
That belonged ones to one of the boys,
It peeped out with its twinkling eyes
And made us somewhat greedy.

We wanted to play once again,
Leaving all work behind to be in our den,
Of the same old winter house
Whose every corner we have to browse.
Before it starts to freeze
With snow and the blister-breeze.

So we keep the teddy aside,
Let it be there, let it hide.
We just stay in our pride
Of being wiser to make us winter-ready.

  1. An Ode to December touched a raw nerve , being from Delhi, we have been witnessing high levels of pollution in the last few winters and prayer for a clean and bright winter surely gets my vote.

  2. There is something about December that always makes me pause and reflect, and your poems really captured that cozy yet slightly nostalgic feeling perfectly. I loved the imagery you used because it instantly made me think of cold evenings and curling up with a warm blanket. It is such a lovely and creative way to say goodbye to the year while welcoming the new one. Reading this actually made me want to grab a hot cup of coffee and just sit quietly by the window for a bit.

  3. Such a pleasant ode to winter, Reubenna. While growing up in a convent we were always singing poems and carols about snowy December and white Christmas but living in Vijayawada it was not even a pleasant one. I wish i cud see a white Christmas someday and make your poem come true.

  4. The pollution is deadly in Delhi-NCR. But I still love winter for its ability to make us rest a little, enjoy the few hours of sunshine and walk around without sweating, like the teddy, winter means hot chocolate and lots of peanuts.

  8. An Ode to December feels like a hopeful whisper to a beloved guest—inviting December with longing, nostalgia, and a quiet plea for cleaner, gentler winters. Its simplicity and sincerity make it instantly relatable.

Winter-Ready, on the other hand, offers a tender slice of childhood memory. The rediscovered teddy becomes a symbol of innocence we often outgrow but secretly yearn to return to. The poem beautifully contrasts adult responsibilities with the irresistible pull of nostalgia.

Together, the poems celebrate winter not just as a season, but as an emotion—of hope, memory, warmth, and small joys hidden in forgotten corners. Loved your thoughts :)

  15. These poems carry a gentle nostalgia and quiet hope. December feels human here, while winter becomes memory and warmth, not just weather. Soft, tender lines that linger like a familiar old blanket.
