Top 5 Intense Bengali Web Series to Watch Now
Now that the celebrations are almost over, not in my house though, as my daughter has still kept it hanging with a few crackers left for the Grand Finale, I decided to write after a long time, back with my weekly dose of entertainment. Today, I will be writing about a few Bengali web series that have captivated the audience with their intensity. There are many, actually, but at this point, I recall some, and I am filtering out the five best among those.
1. Nikhoj: DCP Brinda Basu's daughter goes missing. She nabs the prime suspect, ace journalist Romit Sen, her daughter's idol. As the investigation progresses, Brinda becomes entangled in various lies and deceptions with every new character that emerges. Will Brinda succeed in getting an answer? Will she find out her missing daughter? Nikhoj, a 2-season web series, is a suspense-filled journey that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The gripping 2-season web series has Swastika Mukherji as Brinda Basu and Tota Roy Chowdhury as Romit Sen.. Both excel in their characters, and the story effortlessly brings out the hidden evils of fame and success. This series is a must-watch.
2. Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo: Adapted from true events, this story revolves around a case where an off-duty police sergeant was killed by his colleagues. Backed by influential and powerful people, the case becomes challenging for the young lawyer, Pritha Roy. Pritha's difficulties take a more serious turn when her opponent is Joyraj Singha, one of the most celebrated lawyers with an enviable track record. A pathbreaking case with an equally twisted series of events, this series is quite underrated.
Mimi Chakrovarty and Tota Roychowdhury's courtroom scenes are a testament to their acting prowess. The way their professional and personal lives intertwine, and the revelations that unfold throughout the case, make this series a novel and engaging watch.
3. Rajneeti: Another 2-season series, which highlights how Dirty Politics can even ruin families and their ties. The power-hungry aspect of an influential political family comes out brutally, as the daughter of the family loses her memory in a freak accident. The true nature of all the people around her is revealed as she recovers and attempts to enter politics.
This is an intense political thriller, albeit a bit slow-paced, but it is worth watching due to its performances and the occasional, sudden twists in the plot. Dwitipriya Roy, Koninika Banerjee and Koushik Ganguly give wonderful performances.
4. Kaberi: Kaberi starts life afresh as a teacher, after fleeing her abusive husband's house. At her school, she becomes quite popular with the students, but she finds out some gruesome and sadistic hidden truths from one of her students about another missing student.
Kaberi is one of the best series I have watched in Bengali. A brutal story of abuse in the student's gaming circuit, the power and influence used to hush the crime and the fear and trauma that those who want to stand up for themselves have been shown so convincingly in the entire series. Paoli Dam has once again proved why she is considered one of the top-notch actors in Bengal. Sourav Chakrobarty also delivers a powerful performance as her abusive husband.
5. Uttoron: Parna's life takes a drastic turn when an intimate MMS is leaked, leading to her becoming the subject of ridicule in society, even among her own family. The series beautifully captures Parna's emotional journey as she fights for justice, making Uttoron a compelling and relatable watch.
The series is quite good with some good performances from Madhumita Sarkar and Swastika Dutta. It was great to see how the director has kept it real and has shown both Parna's ultimate breakdown and her slow rise for justice in a believable way.
