3 Bengali Thriller Movies to Watch

We are all likely preparing for the upcoming festive season now. I have been under the weather lately. The unpredictable October weather in Mumbai might be the reason. So, it's time to watch some movies. And I did, a few Hindi, a few Bengali. Last week, I wrote about 3 Bengali films that I had watched. Today, I am going to add 3 more Thriller films to that list.

1. Chalchitra: Kolkata Police is baffled by a series of strange murders of women in a similar pattern, where every victim's body is placed in a position to appear framed. After a thorough search and investigation, the able team of officers was able to nab the culprit. The film is gripping and has a good storyline. The performances of Tota Roychowdhury, Anirban Chakraborty and Shantanu Maheshwari are convincing. Bangladeshi actor Ziaul Faruq Apurba stands out as the antagonist. The movie is a decent watch. Directed by Pratim D. Gupta, the film is available on Hoichoi.

2. Pariah: This is an out-and-out action thriller, involving animal trafficking. I remember watching a Hindi film, almost in the same trail as this film, called Lakadbaggha. A nameless introvert, animal-loving man who fights against the injustice of street dogs, especially when they are trafficked for their meat. To burst the den of the Kingpin, he does everything in his power, but things escalate to such powerful names that his mission faces a lot of challenges. Vikram Chatterjee, as the main lead, turns out to be a surprise package. I have seen him in family-oriented roles, perhaps except for Saheb, Bibi, Golum, where he nailed the character of the antagonist. Soumya Mukherji as Nanda, the butcher gives a captivating performance. Directed by Tathagata Mukherji, Pariah is available on Hoichoi.

3. Mrigaya: This is another cop thriller that reminded me of the Tamil film,  Theeran Adhigaram Ondru. Although this is a completely different story; still, the concept of the highly organised " Criminal Gang" is where the similarities can be drawn. Kolkata Police gets a very peculiar case of a prostitute's murder, which has not been taken seriously. Due to some previous occurrences, the newly appointed SI, Animesh, takes the case very seriously, with the support of his boss, OC Debanjan. Their investigation leads them to a Madhya Pradesh-based tribe called Bhediya, whose organized brutal crimes have made them notorious across parts of North India. The film is highly gripping, featuring intense action sequences and some strong performances. Vikram Chatterji, with his absolutely new look, shines once again after Pariyah. Ritwick Chakraborty adds some comic relief with his effortless charm and last but not least, Sourav Das, as the leader of the gang, simply stuns. Directed by Abhirup Ghosh, this film is available on Zee5.
