Top 7 Bengali Songs for Durga Puja

Mahalaya is on the 21st of September this year. I know it's pretty early, and we are yet to recover from the heavy rains, to get ready for the festivities. This year, I feel completely unprepared; it feels like someone is going to sit for the Board Exam without the last-minute revision. But we cannot deny the fact that Durga Puja is just a few days away, and no matter what, we need to welcome the Goddess and her family with a whole heart. The usual terms that come to anyone associated with Bengali culture are Dhak, Ashwin month, Kash Phool, Sarat kaal and Agomoni. The festivities are incomplete without the beats of the two sticks on the Dhak. Dhak is the essence of Durga Puja. Today, I have compiled a Playlist of Agomoni or Welcome songs for the upcoming festivities, choosing some foot-tapping songs.

1. Dhaker Taley: This song has been the number one on all playlists since its release in 2009. Composed by Jeet Ganguly and sung by Abhijeet Bhattacharya, the song is a cheerful reminder of welcoming the Goddess with a warm heart. Performed by Dev and Subhashree, it's visually appealing too.

2. Dugga Elo: Another cheerful song, sung by Monali Thakur and composed by Guddu, this song made it to the top of the charts upon its release in 2019. The lyrics are interesting- a list of some perfectly suitable objects and things that are associated with the festivals, describes the spirit of the Durga Puja.

3. Dhak Baja: Any list is incomplete without a Shreya Ghoshal. This song of the singer is composed by Jeet Ganguly and was released in 2016. It is an extension of Ganguly's other Agomoni songs, Dhaker Taley and Elo Je Ma.

4. Elo Je Maa: Another composition by Jeet Ganguly, this song was also sung by Abhijeet and Shreya Ghoshal was released in 2012. The line"Bolo Dugga Mai Ki" from its earlier version Dhaker Taley repeats here.

5. Shundori Komola: This song, sung by Antara Mitra and Armaan Malik, is a beautiful rendition of a folk song, Bhalo Koriya Bazao Dutara, by Subhadeep Mitra. The choreography is stunning with Chhau performances from skilled dancers and the lead stars, Ankush and Mimi.

6. Dugga Ma: Composed by Arindom and sung by Arijit Singh, this song is a mix of Dhak Beats and Western rhythm. Performed strikingly by Ankush, the song is surely going to bring some fun element.

7. Bolo Dugga Elo: An extended version of Monali's Dugga Elo, this song is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. Composed by Kaushik-Guddu, this song also follows the same rhyming format of the earlier version.
