Travel makes me happy, and this weekend I am going on a trip—actually, I'm travelling solo for the first time in a while, and I am thrilled about it! There’s a long list of things I prepare at least a week in advance before I travel. I focus on multifunctional clothes and a couple of pairs of shoes because I love to travel light. While my husband prefers to use a suitcase for his short trips, I always opt for an extra handbag.
My general handbag is always large enough to fit everything I might want to carry. I’m also really into skincare, so my travel bag wouldn’t be complete without a good selection of skincare products, though I always ensure to bring travel-sized versions. In addition to that, I always carry a book, my sunglasses, and my travel playlist.
This time, I’m going to create a playlist right now. I’m choosing songs by the legendary singer Kishore Kumar that capture the theme of travelling. Let’s do this!
1. Musafir Hoon Yaaron: This is my favourite one in the list. Composed by R.D. Burman and written by Gulzar, the song, along with a delightful picturization, perfectly portrays a traveller's mind, while he opts to take the unknown path ahead. Picturized in a beautiful location with actor Jeetendra, this song is from the children's film, Parichay, released in 1972.
2. Ruk Jana Nahin: Not as such a travel song, rather it focuses on the life of an average man, and urges him to not stop ever, and keep on moving on, overcoming all obstacles. Composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, this song is picturized on Vinod Khanna and is from the film Imtihaan, released in 1974.
3. Chala Jata Hoon: An absolutely delightful and cheerful song, this was composed by R D Burman and picturized on Rajesh Khanna. The best thing about the song is the hoodling by Kishore Kumar. The striking yellow car, moving along the mountain road, also adds to the charm.
4. Hawa Ke Saath Saath: This song is from the famous comedy film, Seeta Aur Geeta, released in 1972. Composed by R D Burman, and penned by Anand Bakshi, the song has some fun moments picturized on Sanjeev Kumar and Hema Malini. In the entire song, the actors are seen to skate along the road.
5. Main Hun Jhoom Jhoom: This is a Title song of the film Jhumroo, released in 1961, starring Kishore Kumar himself. The song is full of fun beats and gibberish hoodling, that makes it so special. The song is composed by Kishore Kumar himself. What a multifaceted talent!
As an avid school-going reader, my interest always centred around the weekly magazines we subscribed to at home. Other than the usual ones for kids, the curious cat inside me sometimes secretly dared to go through the ones meant for elders. Like the literary magazine, Desh . At that time, I was surprised to find that the same authors whose works for children I was hooked to, like Sunil Gangopadhyay, Samaresh Basu and Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, were writing for the elders too. One such serial novella, Durbin , was first published in Desh magazine. Recently, I had a chance to read the book, and today, I have decided to write about it. About the Author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay is one of the most prominent literary figures of our times whose vast contribution to Bengali literature is unparalleled. He has been awarded many times for his outstanding works in adult and children's literature. His notable works include Kagojer Bou, Chokh, and Chhayamoyi for adults, Nabiganjer Doittyo, Patalgha...
Marc was looking at the remnants of what used to be his vast villa once. He could see clouds of smoke forming in certain places. It was still hot out there, with fire fragments flowing all over. In front of the gate was a huge pile of broken items- some turned to ashes and some half-broken. He could see something shining through the pile. He approached near to find a partially broken framed photograph. He picked it up to find one half of a picture of a beautiful 25-year-old woman with wavy blond hair and dreamy hazel eyes- his Lucy. Fire - devastating, damaging & destructive! It has taken away all he has lived with for the last 5 years. Every object, every article, and every piece had been restoring Lucy's touch, her memories, and the feeling of her presence that brought life to all things inanimate. The garden where she grew her roses, the pool where she used to swim like a swan, all gulped by the deadly hunger of the forest fire!! Tears rolled down the 55-year-old's ag...
We have 2 schools near our house, and both are preparing for Sunday's Republic Day celebrations. Listening to the drum beats and patriotic songs feels so good. Yesterday, it was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary. I remember watching an old movie based on his life a long time back. This made me wonder why not make a list of such patriotic Bengali films today. So, today, I have listed 5 such patriotic Bengali Films: 1. Chattogram Astragar Lunthan (1949): Released at a time when India had freshly gained independence from Imperial British rule, this film centres around the Chittagong Armoury Raid and its mastermind, Masterda (Surya Sen). Surya Sen was a local teacher who planned to raid the Armoury with his small group of students, resulting in a fatal revolt. The immortal patriotic song, "Karar Ei Louho Kopat", penned by Kazi Nazrul Islam, was used in this film. 2. Ananda Math (1951): Ananda Math is one of my favourite novels by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay...
This is a lovely list. Very apt tracklist for a trip.
