Top 3 Bengali Crime Series to Watch Now

Detection, court Room dramas, catching the killer- to sum it up, this is what I like to read about or watch the most. So, when I started watching Dexter, my mom said, "Stop watching this Psycho stuff and watch something pleasant" I started watching Castle (it was pleasant). Coming to the now, I tried to shift my focus to watching romantic films in between, but it left a void in me, something I can't explain. These types of too good to be true situations are unfathomable for me. So either you make something brilliant like Pretty Woman, The Notebook and 50 First Dates, or leave me as I am. Thankfully, Bengali web series these days are more into crime-based content, and I, as a designated admirer of the genre, have made the maximum out of it. Today, I have compiled a few of the crime-based Bengali web series that are streaming on different platforms.

Advocate Achinta Aich Season 2: Ritwik Chakraborty is one of Bengal's finest actors. The first season has already shown Advocate Achinta Aich as a laid-back lawyer with a heart of gold. Here in this season, Achinta, touched by a small girl's pleas, is set to save her father, who has been charged with the rape and murder of a minor. The story somewhat resembled one of Bengal's most high-profile and rare cases, where the convict was hanged. Achinta goes against the entire society to defend the convict based on the little girl's testimony, and what comes out are bitter truths, hushed by falsely deviating the focus on the innocent who actually wanted to protect the victim.  The story is sensational, heart-wrenching, and all the actors have done equal justice to their roles. Ritwik as Achintya is brilliant, and so is Debraj Bhattacharya as his sidekick. Rupanjana Mitra, in an important role as the victim's mother, has given a stellar performance.  This show is highly recommended. It's available on Hoichoi.

Birangana: A woman sub-inspector- misunderstood and disrespected in a man's world, proves her worth by pointing out a few suicides as a series of murders as an act of revenge, serial killing. The city is terrified by the murder of women with kids, who are getting married for the second time, just on their wedding day. Despite coming close to catching the killer every time, luck betrays Chitra, the cop. When the killer is finally caught, some painful childhood trauma is uncovered. The psychological thriller delves into the minds of both the criminal and the cop, whose childhoods are somewhat similar, involving estranged mothers. But how it had played a part in reshaping their thoughts and patterns is poles opposite. The performances are a bit underwhelming, but the show is definitely binge-worthy and is running on Hoichoi.

Bibhishon: This is a perfect slow-burner and is only for those who enjoy watching conversational detection. I do, so despite some repeated and prolonged scenarios, I found the series quite intriguing. A police officer gets entangled in a complex situation when a hand is discovered in his area. This incident rapidly starts uncovering a series of murders in the entire region, which leads to unexplained occurrences. There are multiple suspects, but one suspect is the cop's own; he lives with them, mingles with them, but when it comes to confession, he only trusts one cop. And every time he confesses to committing each murder, the soft-hearted cop gets traumatized from within, but puts on a mask of empathy to win his trust. This continues until he confesses to all his murders. Despite some editing inconsistencies, the series can be worth watching just for the conversations between the cop Bidhan, played by Soham Majumdar and the criminal Chidam, played by Amit Saha. This show is streaming on Zee 5
