To My Favourite Teacher #ScribbledandSealedBlogHop

Dear Sir,

I hope this message finds you in good spirits. I want to express just how much of an impact you've had on students like me over the years. Nearly 20 years ago, I had the privilege of seeing you for the first time—an elegant gentleman in white, with glasses that perfectly framed your wise eyes and hair as white as snow. It was a moment that truly transformed my life.

Your passion for literature ignited a deep love in me for language and the art of communication. You didn't just inspire admiration; you cultivated a profound appreciation for the beauty of words. I can't thank you enough for your kindness and the way you generously shared your knowledge. It has made an incredible difference in my life, and I am forever grateful.

In our discussions about textbooks and poetry, you often shared examples from everyday life that truly resonated with me. This not only deepened my understanding of the subjects but also highlighted their relevance in our daily experiences. You emphasized that a strong grasp of our native language is essential for effectively learning other languages, and I’ve come to appreciate how our subconscious thoughts are shaped by our first language, no matter how skilled we may become in others.

I still fondly remember how you savoured your tea with biscuits, dipping them until they were nearly falling apart. At that time, I couldn’t fully grasp why you chose to eat that way. Now, reflecting on those moments, I feel a sense of regret that I didn’t realize the complexities of life back then. I understand now that it was the pain you endured in your throat that led you to eat like that. Those biscuits and your tea were often the only comfort you found during those challenging chemotherapy sessions. My heart goes out to you for the strength you showed in such difficult times.

One day, you graciously invited us to a musical evening, and I attended with my grandmother. I was truly touched to see you performing as a solo artist on stage. When you stepped up to play, I felt a mix of anticipation and curiosity. But as soon as you played the first note, it was as if the world around us paused; the entire audience fell silent, completely entranced. Your performance held us spellbound for the next 45 minutes. It’s truly remarkable to witness someone who has bravely battled throat cancer still possesses such a stunning voice at the age of 70. Your strength and talent are an inspiration to us all.

You have been my inspiration and my hero since that first day. As I progressed through my studies, your guidance played a pivotal role in my learning until I completed my graduation. Looking back now, I realize that those seven years—from my 9th grade to graduation—were some of the most meaningful times in my life, all thanks to your support.

I sincerely apologize for not staying in touch and for not being aware of what you've been up to all these years. In my heart, I hold a deep sense of gratitude and connection, knowing that you are always there, watching over me and the countless students you've guided. Your influence will forever remain with us. People like you are truly special and destined to live on in our memories and hearts.

Thank you for being a pillar of values in my life,
With Sincere Regards,
Your student
Reubenna

  1. Such a heartfelt tribute to your teacher. The solo performance on stage replicates what the teacher must have done in class, highlighting the superlative class led by him. Inculcating a love for Literature, Language, and thus the Art of Communication, while leading by example surely is a wonderful gift any individual would feel blessed to receive. It is wonderful that you connected again with him and enjoyed his musical performance!

  4. As a teacher myself, I can see how such a letter would be appreciated by one who receives it. Appreciation is vital and your letter is imbued with admiration and reverence for your teacher, especially when you speak of how he inspired your love for literature, and also, the way he sang despite his health issues.

  5. Being a teacher, I was moved exceptionally by this letter. This sort of appreciation, admiration, love and tenderness... well, which teacher - anyone at all, for that matter - won't love that? But the tragedy of cancer! Some fates are beyond anyone's control.

  7. This was such a heartfelt read. I could really connect with the way you expressed gratitude and admiration for your teacher, being a Teacher/Mentor/Professor I could understand. The little details you shared—the classroom moments, the lessons beyond books, even the tea and biscuits, made it feel so alive. It reminded me how some teachers leave marks on our lives that time can never erase. Truly moving.
