Top 3 Most-Engaging Bengali Web Series I watched Recently

Some web series are so engaging that you cannot stop yourself from writing about them. Here are 3 such web series that I watched recently, and that were quite impressive.

1. Batashey Gungun: The niece of a powerful political leader in a small town becomes interested in her professor. What starts as a simple liking slowly develops into a passionate one-sided affair, which, upon discovering his marital status, turns into an obsession.

Batashey Gungun is an intense story that explores the theme of obsession through the lens of a highly impulsive yet intelligent girl. Srijla Guha delivers a powerful performance as Pallabi, effectively portraying the character's twisted nature beneath her sweet and beautiful exterior. Suhotra Mukherjee plays Arindam, who is well-cast in this role. He enjoys the unwanted attention from Pallabi but is also fearful of his situation, particularly because he is married. He finds himself torn between a dangerously obsessive lover and his family life. What choice will he make? To find out, you’ll need to watch this engaging series available on Hoichoi. It's definitely worth a one-time watch.

2. Bhog: An atheist antique collector unexpectedly develops an interest in traditional rituals, religion, and spirituality. He becomes so enamoured with a recently purchased statue that he begins to worship it as a deity. His initial curiosity gradually transforms into a consuming obsession, leading him to disconnect from the outside world.
Anirban Bhattacharya delivers a brilliant performance as Atin. His initial indifference towards religion evolves slowly but intensely into a fanatical obsession, which he portrays with remarkable clarity. Parno Mitra, as Damri, creates an unsettling atmosphere, fully embodying the mystery of her character. Parambrata Chattopadhyay's direction is engaging, featuring some truly frightening jump scares. This is a must-watch show for horror genre fans.

3. Dainee: Pata, a woman who is estranged from her family, returns home upon her father's death. Her sister Lata, who was adopted by her father, had also eloped and married one of their servants. To get her share of the will, Pata has to find Lata, who has not been heard of for many years. After gathering some information about her, Pata sets out on a journey to find her estranged sister, and what she comes across is equally frightening and gut-wrenching.

Mimi Chakraborty’s portrayal of Pata is truly remarkable. Her character's journey from anger and fear to rage and revenge is depicted with such conviction that it stands out as one of the most memorable performances in a Bengali web series. The action sequences are directed meaningfully, making it believable that a seemingly ordinary woman transforms into a powerful figure, taking on her enemies. Instead of suddenly becoming a superwoman, the narrative shows how her helplessness and fear drive her to exceed her limits, and every step of the way, she surprises herself with the strength she discovers within. Biswajit Das as Janguru is menacingly devilish.  This is a must-watch series, but a trigger warning about extreme gore and brutality throughout the series.
