An advertisement for KitKat featuring Ayushmann Khurrana perfectly illustrates what many of us experience daily in our hectic lives. With professional deadlines, family demands, and social pressures, the expectations placed on a single individual can sometimes feel overwhelming in this complex world.
I am not immune to the chaotic nature of the world we live in and am equally affected by its vicious circle. In the past, I would often feel overwhelmed by the constant pressure of my responsibilities, which led me to isolate myself. However, I eventually realized that this only worsened my problems by straining my personal and social life. I was fortunate to take a three-year break from my professional life. During this time, I focused on personal growth and came to realize the importance of one key concept: balance. The essence of living lies in balancing our responsibilities. I've learned a great deal from my husband about how to manage work while still maintaining a sense of openness and not shutting down completely. I've had to discover various ways to keep the "me within me" alive. Besides spending quality time with my family, especially my daughter, and occasionally participating in social activities within a few online and offline communities, I've found another way to boost my energy: through music. And today, I am creating a Playlist of songs that I often listen to whenever feeling down.
Subah Subah ( I See You): When I wake up feeling low on energy, my energizing coffee isn't the only boost I need—there's also a song from the 2006 film I See You. The music by Vishal-Shekhar, combined with Vishal Dadlani's lyrics, serves as a wake-up call for my tired ears. Visually, the song is captivating as well, featuring the "oh-so-handsome" Arjun Rampal whistling through the streets of London. It's the perfect way to start an active morning for me. Lyrics like,
"Jo jeena hai, Usiko jee le
Jo jiya woh ji liya
Ye nasha pee liya."
-just give us hope to start every day on a fresh note.
2. Tanha Dil ( Shaan): This dates way back to 2003, a time when music videos were more popular than film songs, and this song by Shaan is a perfect companion during moments when I am alone at home or even travelling somewhere by myself. The music and lyrics by Ram Sampat beautifully capture the essence of wandering hearts and the desire to explore the world's beauty.
"Aankhon me sapne liye
Ghar se hum chal to diye
Jaane ye rahein ab le jayegi kahan"
I remember playing it quite often when I moved to Bangalore for my job, during those times.
3. Ruki Ruki ( Mast): The song, featuring the powerful vocals of Sunidhi Chauhan and Sonu Nigam, is a vibrant burst of energy that serves as a perfect reminder to stay awake, be active, and reconnect with friends. This track, from the 1999 film Mast, composed by Sandeep Chowta, still feels as electrifying and energising as it did during my college days.
" Tu jo kahe mai sunoo
Mai jo kahoo tu sune
Lad jaaye baaton ki ladi"
That's what friendship is supposed to be, right?
4. Dhan Te Nan (Kaminey): Vishal Bharadwaj's composition, combined with the powerful voices of Sukhwinder Singh and Vishal Dadlani, along with Gulzar's compelling lyrics, creates an electrifying experience. And we can't forget the incredible energy of Shahid Kapoor! This song has everything—it’s the perfect pick-me-up for a tired day and still delivers those thrilling “Jhatka” moments we all need to recharge. Kaminey, released in 2009, is one of my favourite movies, and this song is truly Amazing with a capital "A."
" Jo bhi jata hai, jata hai
Woh phir see aata nahi."
The ultimate truth...
5. Paigham ( Lakeer): This soft and melodious song from the film Lakeer was released in 2004. The soulful music was composed by A. R. Rahman, while the romantic lyrics were written by Mehboob. The song features the beautiful voices of Shaan and Kavita Krishnamoorthy, which elevate it to another level.
" Ji karta hai pankh lagake ud jau mai
Neele gagan ko badal ban ke chu jau mai"
Some very crazy and innocent desires of 2 people in love. I listen to this whenever I feel a bit down and need some self-love moments.
Music serves as therapy for the tired and confused mind. Here is my musical mantra to get my life back on track.
As the mother of a fourth-grade student, my mornings start at 5:30 a.m. daily. Making breakfast and setting up lunchboxes keep me occupied during those hours and since I like to keep it simple for breakfasts, they generally get quite boring, with either bread toasts or chapattis. (common story of a lot of moms). Sometimes our wishes can go to an extravaganza and the longing for a due break with a lavish breakfast consisting of some creamy- buttery mushy mushrooms sprinkled with roasted garlic, some berry-flavoured mini macaroons and to top it all a thrilling, chilling old-fashioned Whodunnit Murder Mystery Movie playing on TV just makes things perfect. Sounds like quite a plateful right? Since we have already made a grand plan of how my breakfast plate is going to look, let's narrow down the list of Murder Mystery movies that can be included in my watchlist. 1. Knives Out (2019): Imagine digging your fork into a plateful of yummy creamy mushrooms, tuning into Daniel...
"Myself Bakul from Baroda." A 30 something man approached Brenda. She was startled by the man's attire. She had never seen so many colours on a man before. She was left amused, "I am Brenda from New York." She could sense the man's nervousness. " You reporter?" "Oh, yes, I work for the New York Flash." Brenda declared. The warm, cozy and colourful bookstore that they were in was very different from the usual ones. Situated by the sandy beach, it had a cafe, equally colourful. Even the books that adored the racks had been arranged in a rainbow themed pattern. Brenda quite liked the overall decor and theme. In fact she was planning to write about it in her next feature, when Bakul came. His outfit perfectly matched the cafe's overall theme. "Nice outfit." Brenda was not a pro at hiding her feelings. "Thanks, Ba's choice." "Ba, is that your girlfriend?" "No no, grandmother." Suddenly the enti...
Marc was looking at the remnants of what used to be his vast villa once. He could see clouds of smoke forming in certain places. It was still hot out there, with fire fragments flowing all over. In front of the gate was a huge pile of broken items- some turned to ashes and some half-broken. He could see something shining through the pile. He approached near to find a partially broken framed photograph. He picked it up to find one half of a picture of a beautiful 25-year-old woman with wavy blond hair and dreamy hazel eyes- his Lucy. Fire - devastating, damaging & destructive! It has taken away all he has lived with for the last 5 years. Every object, every article, and every piece had been restoring Lucy's touch, her memories, and the feeling of her presence that brought life to all things inanimate. The garden where she grew her roses, the pool where she used to swim like a swan, all gulped by the deadly hunger of the forest fire!! Tears rolled down the 55-year-old's ag...
This is nostalgic! I still listen and watch these Indi video songs on YouTube and smile.
