"T" Ekka Bengali Movie Review #BlogchatterA2Z

Last year, three major Bengali films were released, and Srijit Mukherji's Tekka was one of them. It is a "never-seen-before" thriller that captivates audiences. Today, I have selected this film to review for my #BlogchatterA2Z challenge.

Synopsis

Iqlakh Alam is a janitor struggling to make ends meet. He has a son but cannot afford to provide him with a basic education due to a lack of funds. After being laid off from his job due to inappropriate behaviour, Iqlakh devises an unthinkable plan for revenge. He kidnaps a random schoolgirl and takes her to the office where he used to work. What unfolds next leaves everyone spellbound as two TV reporters secretly start filming the entire incident. What drives Iqlakh to commit such a shocking act against an innocent child? Is his motive solely the loss of his job, or is there something deeper behind his actions?

Review and Significance

In Bengali, "Tekka" means "challenge." The story follows a poor, jobless man who takes on the corrupt system in pursuit of getting his job back. However, this journey reveals an underlying crime and corruption that adds depth to the narrative. The screenplay is skillfully crafted, as it does not give away any hints about the twist at the end.

"Tekka" is a true thriller featuring a significant plot twist. The performances are outstanding, particularly Rukmini Moitra as ACP Maya Khastagir. She delivers an intense portrayal of a fearless and level-headed police officer struggling with her demanding job while dealing with her own health issues. Dev, in the role of Iqlakh, also delivers a brilliant performance, and Swastika Mukherjee excels as Ira Sengupta, the mother of the kidnapped child. Yet, every time Paran Bandopadhyay appears on screen as the corrupt politician and industrialist Anubrata Adhikari, he commands attention, despite having a brief but profoundly significant role. His talent shines, showing how to make the most of every moment on screen.

Overall, "Tekka" is a noteworthy addition to Srijit Mukherji's collection of thrillers.
