"R" Aktabeej Bengali Movie Review #BlogchatterA2Z

On the 18th day of #BlogchatterA2Z, I had a tie between two films starting with the letter R: Rajkahini and "R" aktabeej. Raktabeej won as it is a very recent release directed by Shibaprasad Mukherji and Nandita Roy. The movie is inspired by the true events of the 2014 Burdwan Blasts, which occurred during President Pranab Mukherjee's tenure.

Synopsis

President Animesh Chatterji has returned to his hometown to celebrate his ancestral Durga Puja, all under tight security. A blast at a firecracker factory reveals a more sinister plot, posing a threat to the President's life. In response, a team of dedicated police officers, led by IG Pankaj Sinha and accompanied by SP of Burdwan, Sanjukta Mitra, is assigned to ensure his safety and conduct the investigation. Meanwhile, at home, the President faces objections from his elder sister regarding his decision to reject a mercy plea from a terrorist. What unfolds is an action-packed, gripping thriller featuring stunning visuals and outstanding performances.

Review and Significance

Raktabeej translates to "the seeds of blood." In mythology, Raktabeej was a demon killed by Goddess Kali. His unique trait was that each drop of his blood that touched the ground would give rise to another demon. This serves as a metaphor for the ongoing challenge of combating terrorism; the death of one terrorist often leads to the emergence of another.

The director duo, previously recognized for their family and social dramas, have made a striking entrance into the action thriller genre with this film. It is rare to see such a compelling political thriller in Bengal. The action sequences are exceptional, and the performances by Abir Chatterjee, Victor Bannerjee, and Mimi Chakraborty are outstanding. Notably, Kanchan Mullick, portraying the inept cop Nityananda Patitundi, steals every scene he is in.

Music plays a significant role in the film, with each song highlighting an important event. Ankush's smooth dance movements in "Gobindo Daant Maje Na" deserve special mention.
