"Q" SQT Police Er Duty Bengali Movie Review #BlogchatterA2Z

Finding a Bengali movie that starts with the letter 'Q' was quite a challenge for me today. However, I did manage to find one: "Q" SQT Police Er Duty. Unfortunately, this film is not available anywhere to watch, not even on YouTube. It aired in 2007 on erstwhile Tara TV as a short film, directed by Parambrata Chattopadhyay. I was fortunate enough to have seen it back then, and I remember it vividly, mainly because of its amusing title.

Synopsis

In a small hilly town in North Bengal, Sunanda is a determined police officer whose current obsession is to catch Lakai, a petty thief. Their pursuit leads to a hilarious cat-and-mouse chase throughout the region. The question arises: why is Sunanda so intent on capturing Lakai, despite the many important cases she could focus on? The answer is revealed at the end, making it the most enjoyable part of the story. It turns out that Lakai is a master player of the Naal, a traditional instrument, and Sunanda wants to be his disciple. So, beneath the surface of a police chase lies his true desire to learn how to play the Naal.

Review and Significance

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak is one of the most popular tragic romantic films of the 80s. It is very smart to take the abbreviated form QSQT and add Police Er Duty, meaning the duty of the police. The whole meaning thus sums to The Duty of Police from Death till death.

The performances of Rajatava Dutta as Sunanda and Kanchan Mullick as Lakai are outstanding. The dialogues and the chase sequences are extremely funny. Some added characters make the plot more enjoyable, turning it into a suspenseful comedy.

It is quite unfortunate that such brilliant films are not archived anywhere, as the channels they once aired on have stopped broadcasting.

  1. I can imagine the curiousity and intrigue the premise would have created in the mind of the audience. Sounds like a good recipe for an engaging comedy of errors.
