"P" raktan Bengali Movie Review #BlogchatterA2Z

"P" raktan, directed by Shibaprasad Mukherji and Nandita Roy, is a landmark film that reunites the former popular onscreen couple Prasenjit Chatterji and Rituparna Sengupta after 14 years. Today, I will be reviewing this film as part of the #BlogchatterA2Z challenge.

Synopsis

Sudipa travels to Kolkata from Mumbai by train, where she encounters a very talkative woman named Malini, who is accompanied by her young daughter, Putul. Sudipa is further unhappy to discover that Malini is the current wife of her ex-husband, Ujaan. As Malini shares stories about herself and her life, Sudipa reminisces about her own marriage with Ujaan, reflecting on their courtship and how they ultimately fell apart due to differing ideologies and interests.

During the journey, Ujaan boards the train in Nagpur and finds himself in an awkward situation between his current and ex-wives. He tries to remain composed and act normally, but Malini’s incessant chatter ultimately leads to an ultimate closure regarding their relationship.

Along the way, various interesting characters on the train contribute to moments of light-hearted banter. These include a newly married couple, an elderly couple, and a band of musicians.

Review and Significance

"Praktan," which means "former," is an intense drama that explores how relationships that were once very close can completely change due to circumstances and differences. Someone you once envisioned spending your entire life with can become unbearable over time. However, the film also illustrates that life continues, and there is more to discover as individuals follow their own paths.

Interestingly, it features an elderly couple who have spent more than 50 years together, accepting each other's flaws and making every moment memorable. In contrast, there is a newlywed couple just starting their journey, learning to understand one another’s imperfections.

All the actors have given their best in their individual roles. However, Aparajita Adhya as Malini and Sabitri Chattopadhyay as the elderly lady are exceptional.

The screenplay flows smoothly, guiding the viewer through flashbacks and current events. Additionally, the soulful music enhances the film's emotional resonance.

  1. Very awkward situation if this ever happened in real life.

Havent watched the movie..but am i wrong to presume that both Prasenjit and Rituparna's characters are soft-spoken reserved people or introverts?

    1. Yes both were somewhat introverts and never really tried to communicate their issues.
