The Dog Named Mynah

In the city of Halestown, situated by the bay, there lived a stray dog everyone lovingly called Mynah. The locals fed her with tidbits of food and sometimes offered her milk on better days. Mynah slept near the public park in a cardboard box donated by a kind soul.

One autumn evening, when the park was almost empty, a group gathered around a campfire. Due to the dry leaves scattered about from the fall, a small spark unexpectedly ignited a fire that spread quickly. Chaos erupted among the campers as they began to run in every direction. They tried to extinguish the flames with the water they carried, but their efforts were in vain. Mynah, who had been sleeping, heard the commotion and felt the increasing heat. Although she tried to escape, she soon found herself surrounded by fire. Trapped, she began barking loudly for help.

Robert, one of the campers, heard her cries while trying to escape himself. Without hesitation, he rushed back to rescue the poor dog, wrapping her in his jacket. He ran to a safer spot where the other campers had gathered and treated Mynah’s burns with the first aid supplies from his van. Initially, he thought to leave her by the roadside, but seeing the sadness in her eyes changed his mind. He decided to take her home instead.

As the weeks went by, Mynah slowly recovered under the care of Robert's sister, Niyah. Niyah, who was very fond of Mynah, never left her side. However, Robert was harsh towards Mynah and often ignored her whenever she tried to come close. Niyah even got a beautiful collar for Mynah, with her initial "M" embossed in gold.

One day, Niyah drove to the department store with Mynah. After parking the car with Mynah inside, she entered the store to get supplies. Suddenly, a group of armed men burst into the store and threatened the cashier for money. Niyah, who was standing near the cash counter, bravely stood up for the cashier. In a fit of rage, one of the armed men pointed his gun at her, pulled her outside, and took her hostage.

As the kidnapper moved toward their van, Mynah, observing everything from inside the car, leapt out of the window. She ran toward the kidnapper and jumped on his arm, biting his wrist and causing him to drop the gun. His accomplices fled the scene in the van, and without the weapon, he was quickly apprehended by nearby security guards.

Mynah emerged as a hero in Halestown, gaining coverage from all the local news channels. Stunned by her bravery and unwavering loyalty, Robert finally realized how valuable she was to his family. Overcoming his previous hesitation, he embraced Mynah with all his heart and made sure to set aside time for playdates with her every Sunday.

  1. Pets truly have a way of sneaking into our hearts and becoming family before we even realize it. The way Mynah’s presence brought joy and comfort felt so real, almost like I could picture her right in front of me. It’s amazing how dogs teach us unconditional love without saying a word. I found myself smiling and getting emotional at the same time while reading this. Stories like these remind me why I adore animals so much.

  6. What joy it is to be a teacher. I was a spoken English Instructor ,but I loved my students, even though they would be in my class for only 2 months. Your students have done you proud. The story of Mynah shows that dog's are the best companion for anyone. I always hated pets but when i moved in with my daughter, I was forced to live with Vodka, her dog. Vodka has endeared herself to me and you just can't help but love her.

    1. It's great to hear about Vodka. My mom had a pet cat called Mynah. She was so attached to her that she passed away just within 1 year of my mother's demise.
