My Top 8 Ethnic Fashion Moments from 2024

This year, I have been focused mainly on Ethnic Wear. There are a few georgette sarees lying around in my wardrobe which I hardly wear. So I decided to make dresses out of those for me and my daughter. Also, this year, I paid attention to the fabric of my clothes. I love wearing silk mostly, and this year, I incorporated the maximum amount of silk in my outfits.

Here are a few Ethnic wear I have worn on various occasions for the year.

1. Yellow Silk Kurta with Green Banarasi Silk Dupatta

Now, yellow is not one of my favourite hues, as it mostly reminds me of taxis. But I could not resist picking up this beautiful yellow Silk Kurta for Durga Puja celebrations this year.  I combined a green Banarasi Silk dupatta with Golden Motif work and selected a green satin churidar to match the kurta. I accessorized it with a Green ethnic sling bag, antique gold sequinned Jutis and green Jhumkas and a neckpiece of studded green stones.

2. Dusty Lavender Silk Kurta-Palazzo Set with Deep Purple Banarasi Silk Dupatta

This is another silk outfit of mine that I loved wearing this year for Garba. I love wearing contrasting shades. So, while wearing this light dusty lavender silk Palazzo set, I ensured to accessorise with something in a jewel shade and selected this Banarasi silk dupatta with beautiful white gold stork prints. I also added a dash of bold shades to my jewellery with a deep purple stone studded ring, a pair of royal blue and purple stone studded owl cut earrings, and the same colour-coded necklace.

3. White Kurta with Green Dupatta & Churidar

I prefer to buy Kurtas separately and mix and match them with other available items in my wardrobe. This white all-over work Chikankari kurta is one of my favourites. I wore it for a friend's son's birthday party and paired it with a green chiffon dupatta and leggings. Since I am a minimalist in jewellery, I opted for a pair of earrings studded with green & white stones. I selected white slip-ons for my footwear.

4. Dusty Rose Raw Silk Saree

I hardly wear a saree, so less that this year I have worn it only for 2 occasions. This dusty rose raw silk saree was my choice for this year's Saraswati Puja evening cultural programme. I love this saree as it is one of the rarest moments where I felt comfortable wearing a saree. The off-white stripes throughout its body give it a very stylish touch. I wore a sleeveless blouse and, for jewellery, picked a pair of oxidized silver "Kaanpasha" and white beaded bangles.

5. Peacock Blue Brocade Kurta with Golden Satin Churidar and Chiffon Dupatta

I wore this all-over white gold worked Peacock Blue Brocade kurta for Dandiya celebrations in our Women's Club. I combined it with a golden satin churidar and golden chiffon dupatta to maintain the rich ethnic touch. I kept my jewellery simple with gold stone studded dangler earrings. I chose a pair of golden strapped heels as my footwear.

6. Green Cotton Kurta with White Chikankari Work

For Saraswati Puja lunch, I wore this green cotton kurta, with white chikankari work. I paired it with my favourite deep green sling bag, green cotton churidar and white net dupatta . I selected green jhumkas and cuffs for my jewellery. As for footwear, I selected a pair of black jutis with ghungroo.

7. Beige Georgette Kurta with Printed Silk Dupatta

This Kurta I wore for my daughter's birthday dinner was made from one of my rarely worn sarees. It has sequin work all over the sleeves and a yoke around the neck and hem. I picked a printed silk dupatta and a beige churidar to go with it. I skipped jewellery and accessorized with a pink leather handbag.

8. Light Mauve Silk Kurta with Satin Gold Churidar

This is the most comfortable outfit I have worn this year on Dusshera. It is a beautiful light mauve silk kurta with white gold zari work around the yoke, which I wore with a golden chiffon dupatta and satin gold churidar. I wore white stone earrings and a stone bracelet along with it.
