"A" for "Apathy"
The junction was busy; it was peak time, and most commuters were on their way to work. In the middle of the junction stood a lamppost—fancy and shorter than usual, with a Victorian lampshade. No one seemed to notice as a woman walked toward it. She approached at a fatigued pace, her eyes vacant, and her long dupatta flowing in the wind. When she reached the lamppost, she took off her dupatta and swung it around the post. It took her three attempts to form a noose. A few passersby noticed her and gathered around, while most ignored the scene and continued on their way, preoccupied with their busy schedules. The onlookers pulled out their phones to record the unfolding drama; after all, drama means views. Oblivious to her surroundings, she tightened the noose around her throat, as if no one else existed.
