Rule or No Rules #WriteAPageADay

"Saare Niyam Tod Do

Niyam Pe Chalna Chhod Do.

Inquilab, Zindabad,"

                               --- Gulzar

These lines from the film Khubsoorat may initially come across as a revolt against every rule we must follow. However, if one has watched the song or, at best, the film, our view of this powerful song will surely impact us.

Torture and force, in the name of rules, is what the song implies. If one has watched the film, one will find how a strict matriarch, who is all about discipline, suffocates her family members; in short, she is all about" All work and no play". Under this strict rule, the family may appear to be running smoothly, with the sons and daughters in good jobs, the daughter-in-laws "obedient" and her husband retired, but in reality, all are suffering inside, with no scope to pursue their dreams. Then comes a guest who changes everyone. Initially, she appears reckless and irresponsible, but due to her pranks and naughty ideas, the family returns to life, and every member starts pursuing their own unfulfilled dreams. The film is a light-hearted comedy with a beautiful message about life. While Nirmala Gupta's strictness and discipline are necessary for running a family smoothly, her approach to disciplining everyone by entirely banning each member's dreams is unacceptable. She considers singing, dancing, and indoor games a waste of precious time and against family values. However, when the rebel Manju appears in the house, she shows everyone how to go about life by fulfilling their hidden desires. Manju shows her responsible side at the end, with her presence of mind. The main Mantra of the film lies in the fact that living life and soaking into it is the way to enjoy it. Enjoying life is not only about having fun but also taking in the unpleasant truth and feeling it.

At one point, I used to be very controlling in getting my work done. However, right now, I take a more relaxed approach. I have found out here are some things that are working out as of now:

1. Empathize and Interact: Trying to understand the situation of the person you are dealing with if she has not been productive. Interact with her often.

2. Breaks: If someone is loyal yet unproductive for a considerable period, she desperately needs a break.

3. Time Management: Schedule the activity for all and let them plan the work accordingly.

4. Initiate and Lead: If it is something tough or uninteresting that someone has to perform, initiate the activity and lead.

5. Acknowledging: Acknowledging good work is something which everyone longs for. I absolutely believe in that.

6. Build a Boundary: Holding our guard around others is necessary. While interacting and empathizing are required, it is better to not get involved. Let them take on their responsibilities, guiding them in the background.

I am not 100% successful, having followed these. However, it has mostly worked, and now I live and let others live. Again, as I always say, this is the story of my life. It may completely differ from any other individual. I am just sharing my way.
