Brenda Meets Ba & Bakul at the Beachy Bookstore #Blogchatterbloghop

"Myself Bakul from Baroda." A 30 something man approached Brenda. She was startled by the man's attire. She had never seen so many colours on a man before. She was left amused, "I am Brenda from New York." She could sense the man's nervousness. " You reporter?"

"Oh, yes, I work for the New York Flash." Brenda declared.

The warm, cozy and colourful bookstore that they were in was very different from the usual ones. Situated by the sandy beach, it had a cafe, equally colourful. Even the books that adored the racks had been arranged in a rainbow themed pattern. Brenda quite liked the overall decor and theme. In fact she was planning to write about it in her next feature, when Bakul came. His outfit perfectly matched the cafe's overall theme. "Nice outfit." Brenda was not a pro at hiding her feelings.

"Thanks, Ba's choice."

"Ba, is that your girlfriend?"

"No no, grandmother."

Suddenly the entire bookstore was shaken by a thundering voice, "Bakul, Bakul."

Bakul almost fell from his chair, while Brenda saw an elderly lady coming towards them. She looked angry. "Bakul, you fool!! You made me wait outside for f-i-v-e minutes!!"

"Sorry Ba." Bakul fumbled, trembling.

Ba now turned towards Brenda, with scrutinising eyes, " She who?"

Bakul replied feebly, " She Brenda, reporter from New York."

Brenda could sense the increasing tension between the grandmother and grandson. She quickly smiled at the old lady, " Hi Ba!"

The elderly woman's temper sank southwards and she gave a cute toothless smile, " Me your Ba?"

The cheerful Brenda nodded, " You are Bakul's Ba, that makes you my Ba too."

Ba looked elated, she reached for her purse and took out a box, handing it over to Brenda. As Brenda opened the box she could smell something delicious, and saw a few flatbreads inside. " Flatbreads? Chapatti?' She asked excitedly.

"Thepla, tasty Gujarati chapatti." Ba said proudly.

Suddenly she changed her tone, "Husband?" Ba asked raising her eyebrows, slightly concerned.

" Oh no! not married. " replied Brenda.

Ba seemed to be relieved and looked at Bakul, " Bakul, Bahu!"

Bakul turned red and Brenda was left confused. " What's Bahu?"

"You, Bahu." said the old lady, rolling her eyes.

"Oh no Ba, I am Brenda, not Bahu." Brenda tried to explain her.

"You Brenda, you Bahu." Ba was adamant.

Brenda was very confused, turned to Bakul, " Bakul, can you please explain me?"

Bakul was scared but still explained in a feeble voice that his grandmother wanted him to marry so she tried to find a prospective bride for him in every young and unmarried woman she came across. Today was Brenda's turn to be the Bahu.

Brenda laughed out loudly and hugged the cute elderly Ba, lovingly.

"Oh my sweet Ba, Brenda is your Bahu for today. Come lets' have dinner."

The whole bookstore, that was silent till now, suddenly burst to sounds of applauds and cheering and now they noticed a crowd had gathered inside, witnessing their amusing conversation all this while.

Brenda looked outside, at the waves, deciding the title of her next feature, " Brenda Meets Ba & Bakul at the Beachy Bookstore."
