5 French Horror Movies that Freak One Out

There was a time when I used to watch whatever horror films came my way. I have crossed that age of going for cheap thrills in the name of horror. The moment Hollywood started almost ruining the horror genre by making and remaking boring, slasher stuff,  I started watching some foreign-language films. I have watched a few Korean movies, a few Spanish, and a few East European ones, but the ones that really freaked me out are the French horror films. Here are 5 absolutely terrifying French horror films:

1. Raw: This 2016 film is absolutely crazy. It starts with a monotonous note, and all you get is a glimpse of the life of a new veterinary medicine student who gets introduced to a group. But then, when slowly the insane plot unfolds, the viewer will try to run out of the theatre. The movie is filled with gore and blood. The shocking turn of events happens when a vegetarian student slowly gets addicted to raw flesh.

2. Martyrs: This 2008 film is perhaps the first French horror film I have watched. It is one of a kind. 2 girls who come to take revenge on those who tortured and harassed one of them get trapped in the house and come across a clan that is nothing short of insane. The movie is so extreme in violence that it has become a topic of study for film researchers and even Catholic studies. I am unaware of the Catholic philosophy of physical pain and spiritual pain. However, according to Wikipedia, this movie presents that concept. Whatever it is, I got freaked out.

3. Sheitan: This 2006 movie literally churns your brains. It is cruel, sickening, and wrong in every moral aspect. You will feel like switching off the laptop, but you get more glued just because you try to understand what the hell is happening and what will happen. This is not a film you will feel proud to watch, but you cannot escape its after-effects.

4. High Tension: This is a relatively low-level slasher horror movie at one glimpse. However, the final moments reveal the true story, a fairly intense psychological horror. The film was released in 2003 when psychological horror was a relatively novel genre. Keeping that in mind, I find the film quite interesting.

5. Revenge: This 2017 film is a revenge film and is still considered a horror movie. A rape survivor who is left for dead in the middle of the desert comes back to take her revenge on her 3 rapists. It is disturbing and makes one's blood boil due to the degradation of the woman at the hands of 3 monstrous men. The revenge part is bloody but one feels relieved as it was a revenge for justice.
