5 Films of Big Stars When They were Young

So today is the most exciting part of the week, the day I write my blog. Today, I will be discussing a few films of actors who were young when they acted in these films but later on made it big in Hollywood. Some of the huge stars had started as child actors, like Scarlett Johanssen and Drew Barrymore. While some of the films were very popular, some became popular later just because of the presence of those stars in those films.

1. Empire of the Sun (Christian Bale): This incredible 1987 film, directed by Steven Spielberg, was actually considered a flop back when it was released. But watch it today, and you will be left wondering, was the audience blind? One of the biggest reasons for the movie to be so epic is the fact that the 12-year-old Christian Bale left a remarkable mark with his performance as the story's main protagonist "Jamie". He showed his talent at a tender age by portraying the part of the very difficult character of a wealthy and rather privileged boy being held captive in a Japanese camp without his parents and how he survived in spite of the inhuman living conditions through his wit, good behaviour and presence of mind. You know exactly why Bale is considered one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood.

2. Heavenly Creatures ( Kate Winslet): Although this 1994 film is a non-Hollywood venture, it gained worldwide recognition due to its impeccable direction by Peter Jackson and the powerful performances by the lead cast of Kate Winslet, along with Melanie Lynskey. The bond of friendship turns into an obsessive attachment between the 2 girls, which leads them to commit a heinous crime, and later, they are separated from each other by law forever. Kate Winslet is so natural in all her scenes. Her obsession for keeping with the friendship, in spite of all sorts of obstructions and hurdles from around, was scary.

3. River's Edge (Keanu Reeves): This 1986 film is a very disturbing tale of a few high schoolers who, ironically, keep silent about the murder of one of their friends just to save another. Reeves plays one of the teenagers who, in spite of knowing what a crime he is up to, is forced to get into the game due to peer pressure. The movie, although full of drugs, nudity and disturbing scenes, is quite unique in its approach. It quite straightforwardly shows the bad side of human nature- the insensitivity of people, their lack of remorse, and their mindless rage.

4. Freeway (Reese Witherspoon): When this film was released in 1996, people did not take it in a serious way; however, when a particular set of audience could actually understand the meaning of it, it became a cult classic. A modern take on our very favourite Fairy Tale, " The Red Riding Hood", Freeway had Reese Witherspoon playing an illiterate and rebellious teenager who becomes the target of a serial killer. Witherspoon, as the innocent country girl, is outstanding, and she shows her real talent when she opts for the cat-and-mouse chase with the violent killer, played by Keifer Sutherland. A must-watch for black comedy lovers.

5. The Believer (Ryan Gosling): Although Ryan Gosling was a household name due to his appearances on the small screen and as a child actor, this was a breakthrough as this was his first serious role, and he did every justice to this complicated character in this 2001 movie. He plays a blood-thirsty Neo-Nazi, Danny, almost to cover up his Jewish roots. Gosling's realistic performance in this independent film is the main drawing force to reckon with. Every emotion, or the lack of it, is presented so perfectly by the actor that he makes Danny his very own, you don't want to be seen as anyone else's.

These are a few films that I thought would be perfect. Let me know if there are any that can be included in the list.
