5 Spy/Detective Comedy Film Series to Watch

It's been a while since I have watched any good comedy films. We have grown up watching certain detective movies that had comedy as the main theme. The earliest of such movies that I happened to watch was the Beverly Hills Cop series with Eddie Murphy. There were some other detective comedy films that were released later on and went on to become superhits. Today, I have listed 5 such films:

1. Ace Ventura series: Jim Carrey starred in this 2 film series as Ace Ventura, an eccentric animal detective whose misadventures turn into successful accomplishments of complicated cases. The first film, Pet Detective, was a 1994 release where Ace (Carrey) was given the case to find out about a kidnapped Mastiff. The 2nd film, When Nature Calls, released in 1995, was about Ace solving a case of a white bat in Africa. Both the films were ridiculously funny. With Carrey around, you don't need much going on, his presence is enough most of the time.

2. Pink Panther series: Now, this is a film franchise that had been quite popular with cine-goers during the 60s, where Peter Sellers played the part of Inspector Jacques Clouseau, a super clumsy and often borderline stupid French detective. The same role was reprised years later by Steve Martin, who was seen playing the part in 2 films. The 2006 film Pink Panther was about a popular footballer's murder being solved by Clouseau, while the 2009 film Pink Panther 2 was about the burglary at the Vatican City where the Pope's ring was stolen. Both the films were quite humorous, but a special mention to the first film, for its incredibly popular Hamburger scene.

3. Austin Powers series: This 3 Films series had Mike Myers playing the role of Austin Powers, a spy who dives into some funny incidents while he is spying on the antagonist, Dr. Evil, also played by Myers. The 1st film, released in 1997, was International Man of Mystery, the 2nd one, which was released in 1999, was The Spy Who Shagged Me, and the final one, Goldmember (my favourite), was a 2002 release. The film series is a satire of the 1960s spy movie genre, including James Bond.

4. Johny English series: Another 3 film series starring famed actor Rowan Atkinson playing the titular role of Johny English, an English spy, who is a super clumsy man with a heart of gold. The first film was released in 2003, and after a huge gap finally, a 2nd instalment was released in 2011 as Johny English Reborn. The final film, Johny English Strikes Again, was released in 2018. The series could not gather the fame like the other ones, probably due to the huge gap between the releases. Another reason is actor Atkinson's association with the very popular character, Mr. Bean. Nevertheless. the films are funny.

5. Rush Hour series: Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker team up in this 3 film franchise. Chan plays Lee, a serious Chinese cop who is almost married to his duty, while Tucker is a foul-mouthed and funny Carter, an LAPD cop. Together, they team up and lead into some amazing adventures. The first film was released in 1998, the 2nd one in 2001 and the 3rd in 2007. The 4th film is still under production. It will be great to watch both the actors in their funniest avatars after a gap of so many years.
