When Women Partner Up:5 Bengali Web Series of 2026 #Blogaberrycc
It is a miracle how time flies, and it is also very hard to believe that 6 months have already passed in 2026. My year so far has been decent; not much has been happening. I hoped to travel, but it did not function. So, I thought of sharing what had happened. As always, I watched a few Bengali web series this year. Interestingly, a lot of these had very strong female characters, who gain power after going through years of suppression, unfair treatment, and torture. All these web series that I would be writing about have very different plots and characters. They have women from different backgrounds and worlds, from educated careerists trying to climb the corporate ladder to factory workers in a tannery. But one thing remains common in all these women: they have to fight every moment for what they deserve, and that is basic dignity and respect. A woman can only understand another woman's problems, and all these web series have highlighted this fact; here, they partner together to support each other and to get justice for themselves, by hook or crook.
1. Queens: The very recent web series to hit the OTT platform is Queens, directed by Nirjhar Mitra. I am yet to watch it, as I am not getting time, but what makes it to the list is:
I. Mitra's last series, Dainee, was undoubtedly one of the best when it comes to Bengali web series
II. Mimi Chakravarty returns, and she was simply fabulous in Dainee
The story revolves around 4 widows of a family, whose lives are shattered in one single night's massacre. Their tears turn to fire, and together they partner up to set out on a path of vengeance. Apart from Mimi, the other actors in the series are Arna Mitra, Joydeep Mukherjee, and Baisakhi Marjit. This series is streaming on Hoichoi.
2. Kaalipotka: This series centres around 4 working-class women, leading tough lives of neglect, struggle and abuse. Their lives change drastically when they start a risky side business together. Through deceit, threats, and differences, their partnership remains intact even in the most difficult times, and here comes their victory.
The series on Zee5 is directed by Abhirup Ghosh and features an ensemble cast including Swastika Mukherjee, Shruti Das, Shreya Bhattacharya, and Anirban Chakraborty. The series is full of gore, blood, raw dialects and disturbing scenes that may not be suitable for all.
3. Kuheli: When a single and powerful man makes the lives of 3 sisters hellish, they partner together to stand up for themselves. This thriller series has an ensemble cast of Kaushik Sen, Priyanka Sarkar, Angana Roy, Riddhima Ghosh, and Susmita Dey.
Directed by Aditi Roy, it keeps one guessing till the end about the actual murderer. Although not as action-oriented or fast-paced as the two above, this slow drama creates a sense of mystery heightened by its foggy, hilly settings. Kaushik Sen, as the narcissistic patriarch, is annoying to the core. The actor, as always, had given a great performance. Subhrojit Dutta brings some comical relief to this intense drama, streaming on Hoichoi.
4. Thakumar Jhuli: Age is just a number, and this series proves it. A 70+ grandmother wears the investigator's hat and partners with her granddaughter to solve the murder of a girl on her wedding day. This detective comedy series, directed by Ayan Chakraborti, features Srabanti Chatterji as Girijabala, the grandmother.
The series can be termed as a Bengali representation of Miss Marple, with some exceptions, of course. It has some entertaining performances, especially from the late Rahul Banerjee as a lazy cop who often gets classed by the Thakuma.
5. Karma Korma: Although it was released in 2025, I had watched it in 2026, so I am including this one too. Two women, from very different backgrounds, get to know each other through a baking workshop. What is common between both is their abusive and insensitive husbands. An accidental murder takes place, and both come under suspicion of the investigative cop. Unwillingly, both partner up to escape the police and set out on a dangerous mission.
Directed by Pratim D. Gupta, this series features his signature style of dark comedy and a powerful cast. Ritabhari Chakraborty, Sohini Sarkar and Ritwick Chakraborty are outstanding in their respective roles. A must-watch for lovers of the genre.
Partnering and teaming up with the right intention can yield outstanding results. These web series may not be ideal examples because of morally unacceptable outcomes, but they are definitely proof of a successful partnership. Whatever their mission, the women in all these shows have proved one thing: staying together and supporting each other through thick and thin can ultimately win any situation.
