A Visit to Global Vipassana Pagoda, Gorai

Image
The last day of the year went by quite fabulously, as my husband all of a sudden decided to take us to the Global Vipassana Pagoda near Gorai Creek. We reached there at around 5pm. It was quite crowded, today being the last day of 2024.                                                                          The Pagoda is beautiful with a wide golden tomb that can be seen from far, while on the way to the place. The Main Entrance Gate is beautifully made with Buddhist sculptures. There are 2 enormous Statues of white lions on both sides.  Upon entering we learned The Pagoda does not allow short or sleeveless clothes for visitors. So I had to wear a lungi and scarf on top of the dress I was wearing. It was quite comfortable. After a thorough security check we entered the place. We had to climb a few s...

Top 5 Films with Talking Animals

Image
Keeping up with the holiday mood and continuing to write about movies for kids, today I am going to list a few films where there are animals who are shown talking. There are numerous animation films in this genre, however, I have chosen non-animation ones only. So without further delay, here is the list: 1. Dr. Dolittle (1999 ): A veterinary doctor suddenly gets the superpower to know the languages of all animals. Although it helps him to treat the animals properly, he comes across different scenarios where he becomes a saviour and rescuer of all animals in the process. Eddie Murphy stars in this very funny film, where animals talk incessantly throughout the movie. I am sure kids will find this film very enjoyable. There is a sequel to the film, which is interesting as well. 2. Stuart Little (1999) : A family adopts a mouse, Stuart who can talk. The son of the family is first jealous of Stuart's entry, but Stuart slowly manages to win his heart to become his true brothe...

When Mahabaleswar Calls

Image
Just before the lockdown, back in 2020, we had booked a trip to Mahabaleswar. Obviously we had to cancel it due to lockdown. So, this time we thought of making it happen, without fail. What's better to end the year, than a 6 hrs long car drive and a 2 days trip to a beautiful place! We started at around 8:30 am. We were supposed to take the Pune route via Lonavla and Panvel. Sadly Google babaji led us the other way, from Raigad. It was a long route, and the NH66 being under construction, there was a long traffic. We took a shortcut, through some village with bumpy road. The roller coaster ride, though risky was quite adventurous. Good that we had tea at a roadside eatery at around 10. After, the thrilling drive when we finally reached NH66 it was almost 2pm. We were starving but decided to stop only nearby our destination. So before we were almost there in the main town, we stopped by a Dhaba style restaurant called Vedant in Kamshet. We did not miss the strawberry with cream there...
