Last Sunday was Friendship Day. To honour that day, today I have listed a few Bengali songs based on the eternal theme of friendship:
1. Purano Sei Diner Kotha: This Rabindrasangeet may be the earliest song about friendship in the Bangla language and the cherished memories that accompany it. The melody is influenced by the Scottish song, Auld Lang Syne, written by Robert Burns, which also addresses the theme of friendship.
2. Coffee House er Adda: This is undoubtedly the most popular song about friendship in the Bengali language. Sung by Manna Dey, written by Gauriprasanna Majumdar, and composed by Suparnakanti Ghosh, this song has become a symbolic representation of friendship, emphasising the significance of the Coffee House, where a few friends from various backgrounds gather every evening for a hearty laugh, conversation, and debate.
3. Bondhu chal: A contemporary song by Anupam Roy, this song is from the film Open Tee Bioscope. It emphasizes the days of innocent friendship where candies, fairy tales and football majorly rule.
4. Bondhu Tomar Sathe Aari: This is another beautiful song from the film, Jackpot. The soulful voice of Shreya Ghoshal gives life to the beautiful tune by Jeet Ganguly.
5. Roopkathara: Shreya Ghoshal again with her magic, voicing the beautiful tune by Shantanu Moitra, this song from the film, Aparajita Tumi is one of a kind, speaking of the days with friendship and canteen days.
6. Bondhu Tomay: One of the earliest songs that I used to listen to during my college days, this song is very close to my heart. It is from the album Gadha (Donkey) by Chandrabindu band and was released in 1998.
7. Hrid Majhare: A popular folk song revived as a beautiful song of celebrating life and friendship, this version by Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan, and Anjan Dutt simply gives the ecstatic feeling of joy and happiness. The Spanish touch by Dutt gives it a Western feel in between. It is from the movie The Bongs Again.
8. Bondhura Elomelo: This song from the film, Challenge, is an enjoyable reminder of the carefree days of college life. Composed by Jeet Ganguli, this was sung by Dibyendu Mukherjee and Satabdi Chakraborty.
9. Jawl Phoring: This song has 2 versions, one by Shilajit and another by Anupam Roy. I somewhat enjoy the deep voice of Shilajit from Hemlock Society more than the reprised version by Roy, from the movie Prem Tame.
10. Melar Gaan: My favourite actor is here with his band of boys, Hooliganism. This song by Anirban Bhattacharya and his band is winning hearts all over. The folk touch and the simple tune adds a rural touch. The lyrics is very simple yet deep and thoughtful. Penned by Bhattachrya, and composed by Debraj Bhattachrya (another fine actor), Shubhadip Guha and Anirban, this song is top in my playlist of late.
Have you heard any of these songs? Which one do you enjoy the most?
As the mother of a fourth-grade student, my mornings start at 5:30 a.m. daily. Making breakfast and setting up lunchboxes keep me occupied during those hours and since I like to keep it simple for breakfasts, they generally get quite boring, with either bread toasts or chapattis. (common story of a lot of moms). Sometimes our wishes can go to an extravaganza and the longing for a due break with a lavish breakfast consisting of some creamy- buttery mushy mushrooms sprinkled with roasted garlic, some berry-flavoured mini macaroons and to top it all a thrilling, chilling old-fashioned Whodunnit Murder Mystery Movie playing on TV just makes things perfect. Sounds like quite a plateful right? Since we have already made a grand plan of how my breakfast plate is going to look, let's narrow down the list of Murder Mystery movies that can be included in my watchlist. 1. Knives Out (2019): Imagine digging your fork into a plateful of yummy creamy mushrooms, tuning into Daniel...
"Myself Bakul from Baroda." A 30 something man approached Brenda. She was startled by the man's attire. She had never seen so many colours on a man before. She was left amused, "I am Brenda from New York." She could sense the man's nervousness. " You reporter?" "Oh, yes, I work for the New York Flash." Brenda declared. The warm, cozy and colourful bookstore that they were in was very different from the usual ones. Situated by the sandy beach, it had a cafe, equally colourful. Even the books that adored the racks had been arranged in a rainbow themed pattern. Brenda quite liked the overall decor and theme. In fact she was planning to write about it in her next feature, when Bakul came. His outfit perfectly matched the cafe's overall theme. "Nice outfit." Brenda was not a pro at hiding her feelings. "Thanks, Ba's choice." "Ba, is that your girlfriend?" "No no, grandmother." Suddenly the enti...
Marc was looking at the remnants of what used to be his vast villa once. He could see clouds of smoke forming in certain places. It was still hot out there, with fire fragments flowing all over. In front of the gate was a huge pile of broken items- some turned to ashes and some half-broken. He could see something shining through the pile. He approached near to find a partially broken framed photograph. He picked it up to find one half of a picture of a beautiful 25-year-old woman with wavy blond hair and dreamy hazel eyes- his Lucy. Fire - devastating, damaging & destructive! It has taken away all he has lived with for the last 5 years. Every object, every article, and every piece had been restoring Lucy's touch, her memories, and the feeling of her presence that brought life to all things inanimate. The garden where she grew her roses, the pool where she used to swim like a swan, all gulped by the deadly hunger of the forest fire!! Tears rolled down the 55-year-old's ag...
