7 Incredible Songs: A Reminder of Greenery #worldenvironmentday

Hey, hey, everyone, hope the recent rains have brought some relief from the intense heat that had been tormenting us for weeks! And why not? It's just nature's wrath on us, our carelessness and disrespect towards her. Can we be a bit more caring and loving towards Mother Nature and her incredible gifts? Can we show some gratitude for what we still have because of her?


This World Environment Day, as India is celebrating with an oath of, " Inspired by nature. For Climate. For our future." the objective of the mission is to intensify the nation's climate action through renewable energy expansion, electric mobility and large-scale environmental programmes. One of the easiest ways to give back to nature is to follow the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative. The good news is that this programme is practised in schools these days, so that young minds remain aware of the importance of a green, clean environment.

Today, on 5th June, we are dedicating a few songs to Mother Nature and her elements. 

1. Suhana Safar: The voice of Mukesh, music by Salil Chowdhury and lyrics by Shailendra. To top it all, Dilip Kumar and his magnetic charm- this song of a travelling man through the woods reflects on how, amidst nature, a lonely person gets company, through birds' chirpings, the gentle breeze and the overall beauty.


 

 2. Bade Achhe Lagte Hai: One of my most favourite songs, this song, composed by RD Burman, was sung by Amit Kumar and picturized on Sachin Pilgaonkar. A young man's first expression of romance is when comparing his beloved's presence to the beauty of the river and the enchanting evening. Such an enriching tune and meaning the song carries!

 

 3. Yeh Zameen Gaa Rahi Hai: Again, RD Burman and Amit Kumar, and a refreshing song where a traveller is walking amidst nature while fully getting immersed in its beauty. A soulful, emerging song to soothe the mind.

 

 4. Asmaan Ke Paar: Composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, this song is one of KK's best ever. It is from the coming-of-age movie, Rockford, by Nagesh Kukunoor. A reprise of the song, performed much later by participants of Fame Gurukool, including Arijit Singh.

   

 5. Kaisi Hai Ye Rut: Sung by Srinivas and composed by Shankar Ehsaan and Loy, this song had a dream sequence where a man is treading in a fantasy land and beautiful nature. Javed Akhtar's lyrics capture the essence of the man's momentary ecstasy. 

 

 6. Choti Si Asha: AR Rehman's soulful music and the powerful, sharp voice of Minmini make this song one of the most enjoyable tunes describing nature. A young woman's innocent desires, wishes, and hopes are revealed through the beautiful lyrics. 

 

7. Barso Re: Again Rehman, Javed Akhtar pair created magic through Shreya Ghoshal's mesmerising voice and Aishwarya Rai's enigmatic presence. Each word of the song is felt through the music and the actor's powerful persona. A rain-soaked land, its greenery and the woman's happiness - a mixed bag of beauty and emotions.

  

Oh by the way, I am glad that I was born on this particular day two centuries back.

    Happy birthday Ruebenna. The first video isn't playing for me but for the rest, I must say, as a generation, we all enjoyed and loved those songs. Even to this day, when they play or are even mentioned, we start humming it. Yeh zameen gaa rahi hai, ufff, my sister was a huge Kumar Gaurav fan, and I almost forgot this song...hearing it now after decades made me nostalgic. Thanks for the musical post...I sang along as I read. 😊

Every year, before the onset of Durga Puja, readers of Bengali literature receive some precious gifts in the form of the Sharadiya Pujabarshiki (Yearly Literary Magazine). For the past 70 years or so, we have seen some outstanding works from the Creme' of Bengali literature like Samaresh Basu, Sunil Ganguly, Shirshendu Mukherjee, Ashapurna Devi and many others being published in these magazines for the first time. This trend continues; this year, too, my husband gifted me a few such magazines before Durga Puja. Mushy Mushrooms, Mini Macaroons & 5 Whodunnit Murder Mysteries to Watch on My Breakfast Plate

As the mother of a fourth-grade student, my mornings start at 5:30 a.m. daily. Making breakfast and setting up lunchboxes keep me occupied during those hours and since I like to keep it simple for breakfasts, they generally get quite boring, with either bread toasts or chapattis. (common story of a lot of moms). Sometimes our wishes can go to an extravaganza and the longing for a due break with a lavish breakfast consisting of some creamy- buttery mushy mushrooms sprinkled with roasted garlic, some berry-flavoured mini macaroons and to top it all a thrilling, chilling old-fashioned Whodunnit Murder Mystery Movie playing on TV just makes things perfect.
